Cote, Bill

Bill CoteINTRODUCTION:

Growing up the son of a Master Teacher, who retired after 36 years , I experienced the example of what being a teacher is.

Throughout my life, I found it easy to learn and immediately have a teachable level of understanding. This ability made it possible for me to tutor classmates during and after college.

In high school, during my senior year, I was a lab assistant to the Physics teacher. When the teacher was out and there was to be a substitute, the teacher would leave a note on the desk for the substitute saying, “Just be here to supervise, Bill will teach the class.” On those days, I lectured & taught.

After completing Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and winning 3rd prize in the San Diego Science Fair, I was the recipient of the Bausch & Lomb Science AwardBausch & Lomb Science Award 1984, in my graduating class.

My career path and education covered a wide variety of industries, giving me a broad knowledge base from which to draw, when teaching the vast range of subjects within the school district.
From the sciences to culinary arts, I can contribute, and help students understand, clearly, in nearly every subject. I have a fantastic ability to create simple, unique, creative, and memorable examples & object lessons which will help students understand and remember key concepts.

I greet the students with a big warm smile. While Mr. Cote is in the classroom, he takes complete ownership and control, ensuring the students have no doubt who is in charge. The students who are there motivated to learn will appreciate my stern and fair resolve to have a good learning environment. The students who thought they would be able to slack-off with a sub wll find themselves actually learning and being productive. Though stern, I reduce tension with light humor and letting them know, “I care about you, I’m here because I care that you learn something today…” Though I’m a tough teacher, I also interject humor to break the tension (I make up silly/dumb jokes based on the current class’ topic).

Bill’s last name is pronounced like Coty (Cotee).

Why teach the politically or financially motivated reasons?

Graduating at age 87This is my maternal Grandfather.
During the Great Depression, he had to drop out of school, to help support the family, working as a cabinet maker.
He continued that career, raising the family and eventually retiring.
He always knew the value of education and had vowed to, someday, graduate.
In 2001, at age 87, he DID IT!
